Starting out with only 2 hectares and now growing to almost 5, Vigna Nica is a small winery.
"Nica" in Sicilian means, precisely, small. This wonderful reality today is managed by Maria, a young and visionary winemaker.
"If you take a hoe, dig and don't find worms, ants, it means that the soil is not healthy".
HISTORY
Vigna Nica is a small winery -"Nica" in Sicilian means small- owned by Maria, a young and visionary winemaker. The vineyards are located in the Mamertino DOC area, in the province of Messina. This area is particularly suited for the cultivation of vines thanks to the warm Mediterranean climate, but always mitigated by sea breezes. The terroir is mainly clayey and with the presence of volcanic rocks, very suitable for the cultivation of red grape varieties. Vigna Nica works with full respect for nature, combining organic cultivation with biodynamic farming techniques and natural fertilization systems such as green manure, earthworm humus and horn manure.
Harvesting takes place early in the morning, in small 16kg crates. The grapes are selected by hand. Red wines are vinified with prolonged maceration on the skins, multiple pumping over and delestage. White and rosé are vinified at low temperatures in an atmosphere made inert by the use of dry ice. The winery produces four different labels: the Mamertino Rosso DOC and Mamertino Rosso Riserva DOC, Mamertino Bianco DOC and Nica, Terre Siciliane Rosato IGP.
